Martin Luther introduced new traditions to celebrate Christmas. In certain German speaking parts of Europe, presents were handed out by a little angel called “Christkindlein” (little Christ child) who was usually a girl. During the 19th century, “Christkindlein” was often shown as a beautiful young woman. What would Luther have thought of some of these angels?
